A liquid chemical primer applied to dark cotton garments prior to Direct to Garment (DTG) printing that chemically reacts with water-based white ink, causing it to coagulate instantly on the fabric surface.
Deep Dive & Practical Application
Without pretreatment, liquid white ink printed directly onto a cotton shirt is instantly absorbed into the porous fiber weave, resulting in a dull, muddy, washed-out print.
Pretreatment solution contains specialized multivalent salts and polymers. When wet white ink hits the pretreated cotton, the salts instantly drop the ink pH, causing the titanium dioxide pigment to flash-coagulate into a dense, solid opaque base upon which CMYK colors can print crisply.
Pretreatment must be applied uniformly with an automated pretreatment machine and heat-pressed dry before printing.
